With the increasing number of woman in mining more attention needs to be paid to either safety, wellness and general working conditions.
At the moment regulations are inadequate for their safety and well-being. F11 provide safety solutions with the design of systems, devices and equipment to ensure their safety.
Women in mining is not just employment but an important transformation agenda to reverse the historical exclusion of women in the mining industry. The Mining Charter and the Employment Equity are some of the progressive transformation legislation post 1994. We urge companies to join us and do good in this transformation agenda not only to tick the box but to create a conducive working environment for women. Transformation cannot triumph without the emancipation of women.
As F11, we join all the progressive to put an end to what was well articulated by the former president of Burkina Faso; Thomas Sankara;"In order to be able to live in harmony with the society of man, in order to obey his command, she envelope herself in demeaning and self-effacing detachment. She sacrifice herself to this. Women, you are the source of life, yet an object; mother, yet domestic servant, nurturer, yet pseudo woman; you can do the bidding of both soil and hearth, yet you are invisible, faceless and voiceless. You are the pivot, unifier, yet being in chains, shadow of the male shadow... If we lose the fight to liberate women we will have lost all right to hope for a positive transformation of our society into something superior."
"He who does not love women, who does not respect woman, who does not honor women, despised his own mother. Thus, he who despises women destroys the very place from which he is born. He kills himself because he believes he has no right to exist, having come from the generous womb of a woman."
